Day Two: Aiken County Democratic Party

Connecting with Aiken County's Democratic Party

Our second day in South Carolina led us to Aiken County, where we had the privilege of visiting the Democratic Party's office. As we stepped inside, we were greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere, reflecting the inclusive ethos of the party.

The demographics skewed towards an older generation, but what struck us was their genuine commitment to reaching out to younger demographics in the city. They recognized the importance of engaging with the next generation of voters and were eager to bridge the gap. Our tour revealed the heart of their operations – door-to-door canvassing and community outreach, particularly within the Black community. Their dedication to grassroots organizing was evident, and we were inspired by their efforts to empower and uplift marginalized voices.

But what truly touched us was the warmth and kindness exuded by everyone we met. Despite the age gap, we found common ground in our shared passion for democracy and civic engagement. As we exchanged stories and ideas, it became clear that age was no barrier to camaraderie and collaboration.

In a spontaneous moment of connection, we suggested they explore the world of social media to amplify their message and reach a wider audience. The idea of starting an Instagram account seemed to ignite a spark of excitement, and before we knew it, we were helping them set up their first post.
